Tip of the Week

Tuesday, August 11, 2015 - How do I get grout off of my hands?
Don’t use soap after working with tile. A lot of us learned in Chemistry in school about acids and bases. This has an important application when it comes to working with tile and the mortar used to install it. Mortar is alkaline based and so are most soaps, therefore you are actually adding to that burning feeling that dries out your skin. A better solution is to use an acid based, simple household items like vinegar or lemon juice are great for this!
Tuesday, July 28, 2015 - Where Can I Buy Nuheat?

We have hundreds of distributors with Nuheat Standard Mats, Cable and Thermostats on their shelves! They can also facilitate Nuheat Custom Mat orders and answer questions. Head to www.Nuheat.com and click ‘Find Distributor’, input your zip code/postal code for your nearest Nuheat distributor.

Tuesday, July 7, 2015 - How Much Does Nuheat Cost Monthly?
Nuheat will generally costs just pennies per day to operate! However we do have an operating cost calculator on our website to help you determine exactly how much your Nuheat will run you each month on your energy bill.
Tuesday, June 23, 2015 - Get The Job Done in a Day
Did you know you can tile immediately after the Nuheat mat is thinsetted down to the subfloor? This is a major advantage of installing Nuheat Standard and Custom Mats; no need to wait for the thinset to dry before laying your tile unlike with other cable and mesh products, saving you time and money!
Tuesday, June 9, 2015 - Nuheat with Hydronic Radiant Heating
Nuheat can be installed on top of your hydronic radiant heating system to provide luxurious warmth to your tile. Water systems are meant to heat the space, whereas electric systems heat the tile as well. This application allows for easy zoning, quicker response time, no cold spots, energy efficient programming and is maintenance free.
Tuesday, June 2, 2015 - Nuheat is Not Just for Tile!
Nuheat can also add luxurious comfort to engineered wood and laminate surfaces to provide warmth to your room and floors. These surfaces heat up quickly and hold the temperature, achieving a very efficient floor heating system. Our programmable thermostats have specific settings limiting the temperature to protect the warranty of your floors.
Tuesday, May 26, 2015 - Nuheat Mats are the Perfect Renovation Solution
Nuheat Custom and Standard Mats are great in renovations due to the low profile and easy installation, the mat is only 1/8 thick and simply requires a layer of thinset to adhere to the subfloor. Nuheat Mats are pre-manufactured to provide consistently even heat straight from the box and does not require any additional duct work, pipes, boilers or concrete pour
Tuesday, May 19, 2015 - Installing the Sensor Probe
Don't forget to install your sensor probe, included with every Nuheat thermostat! Once the Nuheat mat is pressed into thinset duct tape the sensor probe on top of the mat evenly between two heating wires. While the probes wire can cross on top of the heating wire, ensure the probes tip is away from other heat sources such as heating vents and not placed underneath where objects will be placed such as bathmats. If you have forgotten the probe, the floor heating can also be controlled with ambient temperature!
Tuesday, May 5, 2015 - Swapped Thermostat Heat Up Time
Have you recently upgraded your existing floor heating thermostat to our new line of Next Generation Thermostats? You may notice in the first few days your floor is not heating up to the set temperature. The reason for this is that the thermostat takes a few days to learn  the heating/cooling characteristics of the floor since each home’s floor is different due to outside temperate, insulation and flooring material type and thickness. As long as you have the ‘Early Start’ turned on and allow the thermostat to run for a few days uninterrupted, your Nuheat warm floors will be back to its optimal performance, heating up to your chosen temperate at the scheduled time.
Tuesday, April 28, 2015 - How Many Mats on One Thermostat?
A single thermostat can control multiple mats, cables, or a combination of the two. The question is not how many mats or cables but rather how many amps. Each thermostat can handle a total load of 15 amps, this is equal to 150 square feet of heated floors in 120V and 300 square feet of heated floors in 240V. Simply add up the total amperage of the systems and if they are under 15 amps a single thermostat will do, if the total is greater than 15 amps, a relay or additional thermostat must be used.
Tuesday, April 21, 2015 - April 21, 2015 – Nuheat is Repairable

Tuesday, April 7, 2015 - Don’t Forget Your Mat Sense Pro
Use a Mat Sense Pro to ensure a correct Nuheat installation every time, this handy tool is an electrical fault indicator that simultaneously monitors the hot, neutral and ground wires during your Nuheat Mat or Nuheat Cable Installation. Tuesday, March 24, 2015 - Nuheat in Your Shower
Did you know Nuheat is UL and CSA approved for wet applications? Yup that's right, you can use Nuheat in your shower and on your shower bench! The tile will be warm before the water even hits it, as well as the areas the water doesn't reach. Nuheat will also heat the air around you and dry the areas very quickly afterwards to prevent mildew from forming.
Tuesday, March 10, 2015 - Benefits of Radiant Heat
There are several health benefits to radiant heating! Surfaces within the space are heated rather than the air itself, therefore people feel more comfortable as heating is evenly distributed within each space, eliminating hot or cold spots. There is less circulation of dust and particles that can cause allergies, with no need for ductwork, fan noises and stop/start sounds are reduced to promote clean & quiet living.
Tuesday, February 24, 2015 - Pipe Burst Prevention
Broken pipes are usually the number-one, most expensive repair during cold weather episodes. Exposed pipes begin to freeze when temperatures reach 32F or below. Pipe freezing is a problem because water has a unique property in that it expands as it freezes. This expansion puts tremendous pressure on whatever is containing it, including metal or plastic pipes. No matter the 'strength' of a container, expanding water can cause pipes to break. Nuheat's plug-in kits are a quick and inexpensive solution!
Tuesday, February 3, 2015 - Sole Heat Source

Electric radiant floor heating will heat the entire room, not just the floor surface to provide even and consistent heat coverage. Wednesday, June 13, 2012 - Testing Your Mat

Nuheat’s Tuesday Tip: Testing Nuheat Mats

Here is this week’s slightly belated Tuesday Tip.

To validate the Nuheat Mat warranty and ensure optimal performance, it’s important to conduction insulation and resistance tests before, during and after installation of the mat. For both tests you’ll need an ohm/multimeter with alligator clips, or an equivalent devise. During each stage of testing, remember to record the readings in the installation instructions that come with the mat. These instructions should stay with the end-user for warranty purposes.

Nuheat’s Tuesday Tip: Submitting a Custom Mat Drawing

To start, just sketch a quick bird’s eye view of the room and indicate dimensions and your desired thermostat location. Then, snap a picture of the drawing on your smartphone, head to nuheat.com and submit your quote request-we’ll take of the rest.

This is an actual laundry room drawing sent to us to for quote. We then manufactured a Custom Mat based on the drawing.
